A: We scored a goal. They scored a goal. In Holland we call this a draw.
Q: Now, it will be very difficult for Porto to reach the second phase in the Champions League...
A: Well, we are improving a lot. In the beginning of the competition, we had no points. Now, we have four points. We are much better. We can also play in the UEFA Cup. Did you know that, in Holland, I reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup? I lost the semi-final in the last minute. It was fantastic: the supporters, in Holland, were very happy for almost reaching the final.
Q: But Porto supporters are used to reach the second phase in the Champions League. They won the competition two years ago...
A: We had no luck. The group was very strong: teams like Artmedia or Glasgow Rangers are top-teams in Europe (in Holland, we never won to these kind of teams). Perhaps if we were luckier in the draw, we could play in the same group with Chelsea, Betis and Liverpool, or with Lyon and Real Madrid, or even Bayern and Juventus. Then, things would be much easier.
Q: Why did you put Bruno Alves in the team?
A: Bruno Alves is a fantastic player. He can do things no one else can do. In Holland, we have a lot of players like Bruno Alves. Have you ever seen performances like these: against Benfica, he was sent off and Benfica could not score any more goals; against Inter Milan he entered the pitch and two minutes later, Inter was scoring the first goal and, ten minutes later, they managed to score the second goal; today, when he was playing as a defender, Rangers scored their only goal and a little bit latter, when he was playing as a striker, FC Porto didn't manage to score any goal. It's amazing! I like him a lot.
Q: Why didn’t Benny McCarthy entered the pitch when Rangers scored their goal?
A: Well, we already had Lisandro, Almeida, Quaresma, Jorginho and... Bruno Alves. Do you know that Benny McCarthy also played in Holland?
Q: What do you think about Jorginho?
A: Jorginho is a fantastic player. In Holland, I had more players like Jorginho. He makes me funny: he is always sleeping (with two e's) or slipping (with an i). Whenever a team mate sends him the ball, he looses it. That's not easy. I think it will be very difficult for Porto to keep Jorginho in the team after the transfer window. I've already heard about the interest of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and even some teams from Holland.
Q: And now, Mr. Adriaanse, what's next?
A: Well, I'm thinking about giving the players a two or three days rest. Sunday, we'll start preparing the match against Gil Vicente (in Holland, we have no teams named the same way as a famous writer).
Q: Then, you have the match against Sporting...
A: Yes. It will be a very tough game. But we are much better in the Championship: in the beginning of the season, we had zero points; now, we have twenty-four. We have more points in the Championship than in the UEFA Champions League.
